What's the news right now about an environmentally sound,
socially responsible and economically viable beef value chain?

Happy New Year everyone, and all the best in 2024. And welcome to our 2024 Board and Executive Committee!

This year we will be finalising our Social Impact Goal, holding our First Quarter board meeting in Italy in the first week of April. We will be hosting our Global Conference on Sustainable Beef in Uruguay at the end of September/ early October and continue working on Roadmap projects that deliver on our Climate, Nature Positive and Animal Welfare Goals.

All of these are in the planning process, so please let us know if you want to help out or be involved in planning. As a matter of course, we will reach out with specific requests to National Roundtables, and all agendas and proposals are presented to the Board for approval.

We will aim to be involved in the Climate CoP (29) again this year in Baku. The pre meeting in Bonn in June would also be worth attending. We also have the ambition to represent our members at the Convention on Biological Diversity CoP in Colombia at the end of October, as long as we can raise the funds to engage in each of these effectively.

All of our Working Groups and our Communications Council will be scheduling meetings in the coming weeks. If you need anyone to be added to their distribution lists, please let us know.

Our first 2024 Webinar on 25th of January will take a deeper look at the FAO Pathways towards lower emissions – A global assessment of the greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation options from livestock agrifood systems report, and we will hear from experts on some of the specific strategies in feed, health and breeding / genetics that can deliver more beef with lower impact. Register now HERE or click on the banner with more information below.

If you have specific requests for Webinar topics, let us know and we will try to schedule them over the coming months. We aim to host a GRSB Webinar a month, and hold additional communications webinars when relevant.

I will be travelling to Cattle Con in Orlando, FL at the end of January and hope to be able to meet some of you there. It is always an excellent opportunity to meet members and make new connections. Many of our Board and EC members will be there, as will Katie Ambrose. Let me know if you would like to meet up, or come along to the US Roundtable for Sustainable Beef Booth on February 1st from 1:30-3PM.

We look forward to seeing and hearing from you on our calls and at events over the coming months, and we will keep you posted as to where and when there are opportunities to meet either virtually or face to face.

Thank you,

10 January 2023

Happy New Year to all! In the southern region of our continent, the month of January is a quiet month, where many of us take a few days of vacation. Of course the countryside never has holidays, but the pace slows down compared to December.

In Argentina, the beginning of 2024 is full of many changes and even a lot of uncertainty at the political level and trade measures for meat. The new government promised to eliminate all interventions in the meat market (among others) leading to many positive expectations for the sector.

The exchange rate was also freed, and it came with a high increase in prices for all products, more appropriate to reality, but also with a high impact for the consumer. The first semester is going to be loaded with high inflation, so a complicated year is forecast but with hopes that it will stabilize in the medium or long term.

On the other hand, this is the year of the El Niño phenomenon and in my country we are already seeing the consequences of this. The long-awaited rains arrived in different regions of the country after a few years of devastating droughts, although this has brought negative consequences for certain crops. Beyond that, a good year is expected for livestock.

As for Events, this year I was invited to speak about Positive Nature and livestock at the “The Future of Food and Beverages” event in Minneapolis from May 29 to 30. The United States Board will also be present.

Thank you,
